It's the number one worry people have before ordering meat online: how does it arrive fresh, and how does it stay cold in transit? Fair question. Here's exactly how we get properly fresh meat to your door, wherever you are in mainland UK.
Packed cold, to stay cold
Your order is packed fresh and kept cold from the moment it leaves us. We use insulated packaging with ice packs designed to hold temperature throughout the journey, so your meat stays chilled in transit, not just when it's packed. The box does the work of a fridge on wheels.
You choose the delivery day
Perishable food shouldn't turn up whenever. At checkout you pick your delivery day, so you know exactly when to be in and can get everything straight into the fridge or freezer on arrival. No guessing, no meat sitting on a doorstep for days.
When it arrives
- Unpack it promptly and get it into the fridge or freezer.
- Freezing some? Portion it into meal-sized bags first, it'll thaw faster and you'll waste nothing.
- Cooking within a day or two? Straight in the fridge is fine.
How long it keeps
Your meat arrives fresh with plenty of life left in it, ready to use over the next few days or to freeze for later. If you're not going to cook it soon, freezing on the day it arrives locks in that freshness.
A quick word on delays
Deliveries are handled by a courier, and just occasionally, weather or a courier hiccup can delay a parcel. Our packaging is built with a buffer for exactly that, but if anything ever isn't right when it arrives, get in touch with us at customercare@thefatbutcher.co.uk and we'll put it right.
Ready when you are
Browse the meat boxes or build your own box, pick your delivery day at checkout, and we'll take care of the rest.
