The Best High-Protein Meat for the Gym

If you're training and trying to hit a protein target, meat does a lot of the heavy lifting, high protein, naturally, with none of the faff. Here are the best cuts to build your meal prep around, and roughly what they bring to the table.

Chicken breast

The classic for a reason: very high in protein, very low in fat, and it goes with everything. Around 30g of protein per 100g cooked. If you buy one thing for meal prep, make it chicken breast.

Turkey

Even leaner than chicken in places, and a great way to add variety so you're not eating the same thing every day. Turkey breast is a lean-protein powerhouse.

Lean beef (5% mince or lean steak)

Beef brings protein plus iron and zinc, which matter when you're training hard. Lean mince (5% fat) is brilliant for batch-cooking chilli, bolognese and meatballs, and a lean steak is a proper post-session reward.

Pork loin

Underrated for fitness. Lean pork loin is high in protein and takes marinades well, another good way to keep meal prep interesting.

How to build it into your week

  • Buy in bulk and portion it. Weigh portions so you know your numbers.
  • Batch cook. Grill or air-fry a tray of chicken, portion into tubs, done for the week.
  • Mix your sources so you actually stick to it, nobody keeps eating plain chicken forever.

Prep-ready ranges

Our Fuelled range is built for exactly this (it's the same meat we supply to the Newcastle Falcons), and the Lean and Low and Gym ranges are all high-protein, low-faff. Or grab a bulk chicken breast pack and get prepping.
